Periphylla periphylla is a jellyfish that occurs in warm and temperate seas worldwide. It has the ability to produce light. The animal is about 20-30 centimeters and is transparent, except the stomach which is reddish. The color probably used to hide the light-emitting prey included in the diet. This jellyfish usually lives in deep water in the open sea, from 500 feet to nearly 7000 meters, but it can sometimes be found in shallower water.
